Hello friends,
NACA is over, and it's very bittersweet! On one hand, I got to sleep more than 5 hours last night. On the other hand, I miss going to the everlasting day of concerts and meeting celebrities and networking and making new friends. I had a blast with Rachel, Kelly, and Katelyn and I am so glad we all got to get the NACA National experience together. :)
On Tuesday, I went to an ED session on how to have a successful officer transtion and retreat. We pretty much do everything that they talked about, but I learned an ice breaker called "entourage" involving the rock paper scissors game. When you lose to someone, you become part of their entourage and have to cheer for them. Ironically, I was cheering "JERRY! JERRY!" for a good amount of time. It was pretty funny :)
Then I want to en ED session on using technology and social media (because...well, you can never have enough!) haha and I learned about the site hoot suite and I actually just registered yesterday for it so now I can do more with Facebook and Twitter. Pretty exciting. :)
We then went to the Mainstage Showcase Number Fiiiive! The emcee/comedian Tig Notaro was really funny. She had very dry humor and was very sarcastic and Matt Miller said if I was comedian, I would be like her, except funnier. That is a possibility...but she was very good at pretending to be serious, so i am going to have to work on that. Thanks Matt Miller! Oh and Tig also showed us how to do an awesome "curtain being pulled up or down" impression. (Just inhale in like three times) lol
We missed a bunch of acts in this showcase because we were chatting but we did see Australian performer Anthony Snape..he was very good and did a great medley of U2's With our Withoout you/Foo Fighters Learn to Fly and I gotta Feelin!'
We Shot the Moon were the alternates for Portable Playback and they reminded me a lot of Jack's Mannequin whom I adore! so I really enjoyed that performance.
Next, I went to an ED session on First Year Leadership Programs thinking it was going to be like Orientation, however it was not about orientation at all so it didn't really pertain to me and i had the hardest time concentrating and ALMOST fell asleep! I guess that's what happens when you're up til 2:30 blogging!! lol oh well.
Thennn, Rachel, Matt, Katelyn, Kelly, Cindy and I got the presentation we had all been waiting for! CHICKEN OR BEEF?! CHICKEN OR BEEF?! Miss Samantha Fox! haha Michael Miller is one of my favorite people of all time. Hands down.
Sadly, that performance concluded our NACA adventure. We took the T home and poor Matt Miller fell down the stairs and it just got roughter after that between the crowded Ts and the me almost throwing up in the car from car sickness!! I am not sitting in the backseat of any car ever again. Sorry for making you queasy, Rachie, and thanks for the gum Kel!! :)
I am so glad that I got the opporunity again to experience NACA. I was able to work on my ability to make conversation with ANYONE, whether it was students from other schools, advisors, performers, agents, or anyone I may have come across in the Marketplace. NACA really is the opporunity of a lifetime where only the people at NACA really know what you are doing and how amazing the experience is. You can come back and talk about it with your friends or other PC members, but you don't really know what it's all about unless you experience it yourself. I want to thank Matt Miller for walking to my desk a few weeks ago casually asking me if I wanted to go (and I want to thank Rachel for telling him too!) and to thank Katelyn for taking an outrageous amount of photos with both performers and in the ocean with the sharks and in the photobooth. I want to thank Kelly for going over to Steve Moakler to get a cd so I could get aposter signed that says "Meg, You rock my socks, Steve Moakler". I had the time of my life and it's sad to be back in the real world, but like the last NACA, I plan on taking everything I learned and applying it to Program Committee and to life in general. Thanks NACA. Oh, and congratulations on turning 50. You kept it so subtle, I almost forgot!!
Have a great day everyone :)
